General FAQ About Credentialing

What is vendor credentialing?

Vendor credentialing is the process of verifying that a healthcare representative or contractor meets a hospital’s compliance standards—like background checks, vaccinations, and training—before being allowed on site.

Credentialing is handled by third-party agencies like SEC³URE, Vendormate (GHX), Green Security, HealthTrust VPro, and others. Each hospital chooses its preferred partner.

No, most credentialing agencies charge a fee. Costs vary by agency and hospital requirements, and some may require annual renewals.

Why do I need to be credentialed?

Credentialing ensures that all hospital visitors—especially those entering patient care areas—meet safety, privacy, and legal standards. It’s often required by law and by hospital policy.

Credentialing timelines vary depending on the agency and the requirements. While some systems approve submissions the same day, background checks can take 1–2 weeks, especially if they include county-level searches. If you’re required to complete a drug screening or provide a vaccination letter or attestation, those results can also take 1–2 weeks to be processed and delivered. We recommend starting early to avoid delays in hospital access.

Use the “Submit a Correction” form on our site. Just enter the hospital name, the correct agency, and your contact info. We review and verify all submissions before making changes.
